Mazuruse, who is not new to the music scene, has produced over 500 songs in his decade-long career and his experience as a crafty songwriter, guitarist and producer is evident in the new project. The album is already receiving favourable rotation on local radio stations.

“Music is my life and I am the managing director of Revival Studios, incorporating Sound Solutions and Music for Development — a humanitarian and empowerment arm that uses music as a vehicle for the development of talented but disadvantaged youths,” Mazuruse said.

The veteran producer who has worked with many local top musicians reckons the new album has got an everyday message for people and will usher in a new era of worship.

“The new album is not my first as it were. Beyond being a seasoned producer and a session musician who has worked with various big names in the local music industry, I have previously recorded two albums, Guitar Praise Volume 1 and Guitar Praise volume 2, which were my unique ways of praising God with instrumentals of common hymns from local churches and other compositions of my own,” he said.

“The new album, however, is notches above my previous productions and I believe it will minister to many people and our nation at large. “Zimbabwe has experienced challenging situations, but I believe God in his time makes everything beautiful.”

The song Muneni redirects people and the nation of Zimbabwe to God in whatever trying situations they encounter.

“It’s actually a song for Zimbabwe with a message of hope,” Mazuruse said.

The soft-spoken musician said the new album was more of a reflection of the journey he has travelled since birth and with it he is giving reverence to God, at the same time taking a new dimension of gospel music to everyone’s doorstep.

“We are a Christian family and I can safely say, we are all singers though the level of gifting may differ,” he said.

“Our mother introduced us to the Christian ways from a tender age and as I grew I got to have a personal experience with God and that has largely shaped my music career. If you listen to the new album, you will notice that I am not just throwing words around but I am singing about the Lord’s goodness and his love for mankind.”

Other songs to look out for on the album include, Munondichengeta, which is an adaptation from a common chorus, but with a mellow and touching feel to it. Through the song Munondichengeta, Mazuruse speaks of the Lord’s grace and protection in the journey of life.

The title track, Jesus, which has a shona version to it, talks about Jesus being the source and solution to everything while the song Vongwai and Yawe are worship songs that draw you closer to the creator. Makatakura Matenda (Healer) speaks life to the sick and has a message of the cross.

Mazuruse revealed that he has got plans for the music industry and will continue nurturing upcoming musicians through his recording studio.

“Recording a full album has always been a part of my plans, but with Music for Development, we are going to use music as a vehicle for impacting lives, particularly the musically gifted but disadvantaged around Zimbabwe,” he said.

“I am happy with the response to the new album and people can also access it online.”

While most musicians struggle with their vocals, Mazuruse’s project has got a mellow sound to it thanks to the support from her sister and budding gospel musician Gladmore whose solo project will be hitting next month.

So rich is Gladmore’s voice and she coordinates well with Mazuruse giving impetus to the promising project. One would be mistaken for thinking she is one of the established songstresses.
