Old Georgians (OGs) took a significant step towards representing the country at the inaugural South Africa Rugby Union (Saru) Gold Cup competition when they beat rivals Old Hararians (OHs) 29-6 in a Northern Rugby League top-of-the-table clash at Morris Depot yesterday.

OH, who only picked points through two penalties, proved to be more competitive than Harare Sports Club last week but were still way off the pace as they could not cross the white wash in both halves despite posing more danger after the break.

On the other hand, OGs’ tactically sound play secured three tries in the first half, which were enhanced by another one in the last half lead in addition to penalties.

Meanwhile, a determined Harare Sports Club, which went into the match seeking consolation from their humiliating loss last week, trounced a spirited Old Johanians side 31-19.

Police Defenders fought to the last minute emerging victors over Mutare Sports Club with a close 29-24 margin in the tight encounter.
