The joint, since its inception last year, has only hosted contemporary musicians such as Mokoomba, Chikwata 263 and emerging jazz artists for its growing cosmopolitan audiences.

Music promoter Michael Ndlovu said the rhumba fiesta scheduled for next Friday would change the Ambassador Rooftop entertainment scene by introducing variety but still keeping standards of the urbanite and mature crowds that frequent the joint.

“This will be a great show featuring top and renowned rhumba DJs such as Buzi [Maestro] and Ben [Rhumba Network] who are not new in the local rhumba circles. We are promising an entertaining night that will warm our audiences this winter,” Ndlovu said.

Buzi and Ben have extensive experience plating to local audiences as they were regulars at the now defunct premier rhumba joint — Chez Ntemba.

Chez Ntemba is an internationally licensed club that specialises in rhumba and is found in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia and South Africa, among other countries in the region.

“The audiences should expect a mixture of old popular and new tunes freshly released by rhumba artists in DRC and France,” Ndlovu added.

The Ambassador Rooftop opened its doors last year as the new home of Pop-Up Book Cafe fronted by Tom Brickhill.

The venue is popular with the young and expatriate community as they go there to enjoy the best of Zimbabwe’s contemporary musicians, particularly those like Mokoomba who have performed in Western Europe and United States before sold-out crowds.
