Freddy, who in the past has been attacked by critics for using power from indigenous African occultism, believes his enemies are at it again, this time with all sorts of indictments. He said he was attacked left, right and centre following the successful hosting of the Spiritual Spectacles Night 2 on September 2.

The Standard Style’s Moses Mugugunyeki (MM) caught up with Freddy (PF) at his base in Glen View, and we spoke about how the “spiritual spectacles”, have created more “enemies” than friends for him.

MM: You have been labelled a controversial prophet because of your miracle service. Can you shed light on the “spiritual spectacles”?

PF: “Spiritual spectacles” allow people to see their past and future, giving congregants the ability to see the “second world”. I can refer you to 2 Kings 6 verse 17. The passage says Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see”. Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

MM: What are some of the highlights of the “spiritual spectacles”?

PF: There are many testimonies. We have a lot of stories about financial prosperity, recoveries from illness, building of marriages and even people who have recovered stolen items. There are so many people who are coming to us because of our work.

MM: Some people have in the past accused you of using African juju. Is indigenous African occultism at play here?

PF: It is God’s work at play. We run a prophetic ministry and what we do is all in the name of the Almighty.

MM: What were the major highlights of the Spiritual Spectacles Night 2?

PF: The Spiritual Spectacles Night 2 drew close to 10 000 congregants, with some coming from outside the country. On the night close to 1 000 people managed to see in the spiritual realm after I had released the “spiritual spectacles”. We had a lot of exposés, including a childless couple that had come for deliverance. I asked the woman three times if she really wanted a child and she said yes. I released the double spiritual spectacles, that was when I prayed for the two to see in the same spiritual realm and see simultaneously. It is during the miracle service that the husband discovered that the wife had been taking contraceptives over the past four years — and these were concealed at a neighbour’s house. We discussed the issue with the couple and they went through our counselling session. The wife apologised and the issue was resolved amicably.

MM: Do you have instances where the outcome of the spiritual spectacles lands you in trouble?

PF: Like I said, spiritual spectacles expose the hidden truth. Many a times, we find many people come to church with hidden agendas. For example, there was this married man who came to church, masquerading as a single man and fell in love with a fellow congregant. It is after I released the spiritual spectacles that the girl saw the man’s marriage certificate. The most disturbing thing was that the man was also taking antiretroviral treatment and did not reveal this to her. These are the same people who come back and haunt you, with the intention to tarnish the image of you and the church. There are also a number of people who have been going around badmouthing the church, especially those who would have left the church. Some of them would like to blacklist you, but when you are innocent you know that God is in control. Some people come to church just to soil the name of the church and go.

MM: What has been your reaction to such kinds of attack?

PF: My retaliation is that we are holding another event — The Spiritual Spectacles Sunday — on October 30 just to pass a message that I am not giving up. We are starting at 9am and this is a continuation of the just-ended conference, whereby 1 000 congregants managed to see in spiritual realms.

MM: It seems you are surrounded by a lot of enemies. Do you think there is a moment when you would quit your miracle service?

PF: What I am doing is God’s work and I was sent to do this. There is no point in time I would succumb to pressure from those people bent on tarnishing my image and that of the church. We are ready to serve God, and I will do everything that God wants me to do for Him.

MM: Apart from deliverance and healing, what else do you do to serve God?

PF: I am a gospel musician. I recently released an album titled 100 Percent Prophetic, which has one of the songs titled Vana which is doing well on national radio charts, especially on Radio Zimbabwe. I have released three albums and I had my first music project when I was doing Form Five at Royal College.

MM: Have you done music videos?

PF: I have engaged Dorothy Chidzawo to do the production of my DVD album, which I am expecting to release before end of this year. It’s unfortunate I have a tight schedule and might delay the release, but something is in the offing.

MM: What has been your relationship like with the community of Glen View?

PF: I grew up here and I am their son. I am not a stranger and the community really understands how I conduct the work of God.

MM: Do you have projects that you do to assist your community?

PF: We have a humanitarian arm of the Goodness and Mercy Ministries, which assists orphans and vulnerable children in different communities. As a church, we encourage people to go for HIV testing and reveal their status to their partners. There is no way we can fight HIV and Aids when we don’t do HIV testing. We don’t want situations where couples’ HIV status are exposed through “spiritual spectacles”.

MM: Who actually is Prophet Freddy?

PF: I was born Tapiwa Freddy on September 18 1983. I come from Musana in Manicaland, but I have been staying in Glen View for the better part of my life. I got a calling from God at a tender age. My parents claimed that when I was 18 months old, I could prophesy. Mine was a calling from God and in 2005, I had founded Goodness and Mercy Ministries.

MM: Are you married?

PF: Yes, I am married to Milanda and we are blessed with three children.
