Rovers, who are facing the dreaded chop, wasted numerous chances to take control of the match, with Steven Sibanda the main culprit.

Just 10 minutes into the match, Sibanda, who was unmarked failed to score a Hebron Makukutu pass and three minutes later his header missed the target.

Harare City drew first blood in the 15th minute through Grey Kufandada, who headed home a pin-point cross from Tatenda Tumba’s cross.

Kufandada returned back to haunt the home side five minutes later, tapping home from a close range to beat the out-of-sorts goalkeeper Victor Twaliki.

Match referee Ruzive Ruzive awarded Rovers a well-deserved penalty after the visitors’ defender had handled inside the box and up-stepped Agrippa Murimba to reduce the areas before half time.

Ruzive, who stamped his authority in yesterday’s match ,awarded the home side another penalty in the 72th minute after Makukutu was hacked down by Tatenda Munditi.

Murimba again made no mistake to rifle past Munditi.

Mutare City Rovers assistant coach Kenneth Kachara rued the missed chances.

“We missed a lot of chances and I am not happy at all. The Harare City goalkeeper was a busy man all afternoon. We are confident that we are going to survive relegation. We are now waiting for our last match against Ngezi Platinum,” said Kachara.

Harare City gaffer Moses Chunga blamed the league break for his team’s below par performance.

“By now, we should have finished the league. The two-week break affected our rhythm and this is not good for the teams that are fighting for the championship, but at least the draw was a fair result. We are hoping to end the season strongly,” said Chunga.
