Phulu replaced Samuel Sipepa Nkomo who defected to the Joice Mujuru-led ZimPF together with several other top members of the party.

Phulu said he was honoured to have been elected VP of the party and would immediately mobilise around the policy of the party to bring the desired change.

Patrick Thaba Moyo was voted vice-chairperson, while Sengezo Tshabangu is the new vice organising secretary and Wilstaff Sitemere was elected the deputy secretary-general.

PDP launched its policy document titled Reclaiming of Zimbabwe with party leader Tendai Biti saying it showed thought leadership.

“The point is that Zimbabwe is in a crisis of failure, a crisis of leadership, a crisis of collapse, a crisis of decapitation and we as PDP will not cry and shed tears. We have decided to capture the agenda of transformation, the agenda of change, so in this policy conference, we are redefining Zimbabwe,” said Biti.

The PDP policy is pushing for, among other things, a National Transitional Authority, a coalition and solutions to the economy.

Biti said his party was moving to transform politics from popularity to politics of ideas and solutions.
