The Prince Edward Tigers will make their debut in the fourth edition of the prestigious schools cricket tournament, which will see 16 select schools side from all over the world battling it out for top honours.

The ISCPL which is organised by the City Montessori School has attracted school teams from other major cricketing nations such as hosts India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and South Africa.

Prince Edward School’s sports director Tawanda Jimu told Standardsport that they decided to tour India as a way of providing International exposure to their upcoming cricketers, most of whom are part of the various age group national teams.

“Our participation in the ISCPL is basically a good opportunity to develop and nurture talent by ensuring that they get the much-needed exposure to top quality opposition. I believe it is a boost not only for Prince Edward but the nation as a whole as most of our players are part of the various national team age group sides,” Jimu said.

“Playing against teams from India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Trinidad and Tobago, which are cricket powerhouses, will certainly improve our game when we come back. This tour will also give us a look at how things work in that part of the world,” he said.

The Prince Edward side which is under the tutelage of former first-class cricket and Zimbabwe Under-19 assistant coach Alois Tichana is a development side comprising two Under-14s, three Under-15s, 10 Under-16s, and three Under-18 players.

The team, which leaves the country tomorrow, will kick off the historic tour with participation at the ISCPL before taking on select school teams from the host nation, India, before returning home.
