The word of God is medicine

Religion Zone
THERE is absolutely nothing wrong with using conventional medicine if you are a Christian. It is neither evil nor lack of faith in God to do so. I think it’s important to appreciate that God, in his infinite wisdom, created certain plants with medicinal properties so you will discover that almost all medicines are made from plants. He also found it fitting to impart to man wisdom and knowledge about the human body and how it functions.

No wonder why Jeremiah cried out for the Balm of Gilead (a herbal plant with medicinal properties) for the healing of the people. Besides conventional medicines, however, God has given us another, all-powerful healing medicine in the form of His word. Proverbs 4:20-22 (KJV), “My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.”

The word of God is your best health insurance. You must, however, “attend” to the word if its benefits are to manifest in your physical body. Attending means paying attention, focusing and concentrating (on the word). If any sign or symptom begins to show in your body, the first thing that happens with many people, including Christians, is that fear strikes their hearts and that is where the battle is lost. It becomes difficult, but not impossible, to activate one’s faith.

But God has given you His Word to correct the situation. Speak the word over the sickness until it disappears –– no matter how long it will take, keep declaring in faith that you are the healed of the Lord. So, the Word heals. Psalm 197:20 (NIV), “He sent out his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave.”

Sickness is designed to send you to the grave. But thank God for His Word! His Word is life. It nullifies death.

The word of God is powerful and effective. In one of the healing incidences in the Bible, we see a centurion who understood the healing power of words. Matthew 8:5-10 (KJV), “And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him, And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented. And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him. The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak a word only, and my servant shall be healed. When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.”

A lot of times we underestimate the power of our words. I have observed that a lot of times when people are sick, the way they speak reinforces the sickness — instead of removing it. This is the time to meditate on, and declare, all those healing scriptures you have read.

But there is also a tendency to claim ownership of the sickness by using expressions such as my blood pressure is high, my sugar diabetes is too high, the doctor said my cancer has spread so much there is nothing they can do about it. Your blood pressure? Your sugar diabetes? Your cancer? No, it’s not yours! It belongs to the devil!

Stop claiming ownership of that sickness afflicting your body. Claiming ownership gives it a legal right to stay in your body and to cause as much damage as possible.
