SUBSTITUTE Moses Demera’s solitary goal ensured Yadah FC booked a place in the first round of the Chibuku Super Cup after edging Hwange in a preliminary round clash played at Mandava Stadium yesterday.

Demera, who replaced an injured Byron Madzokere 32 minutes into the match, gave Yadah FC the only goal they needed to spice up their debut Chibuku Super Cup appearance. He finished off a long clearance by skipper Jimmy Dzingai in the 51st minute.

Hwange dominated the game with rookie striker Delic Murimba failing to convert several chances in front of goal.

In fact, the coal miners should have opened the scoring in the 36th minute when Sheperd Gadzikwa found Murimba, whose effort was tipped over the bar by goalie Samuel Mafukidze.

In the 43rd minute, Murimba yet again failed to capitalise on some miscommunication between the Yadah Stars centre backs, Dennis Dauda and Dzingai, with his effort going straight into the hands of an exposed Mafukidze.

Yadah coach Thomas Ruzive gave credit to his squad for containing the pressure that Hwange piled for the better part of the game.

“My boys played well and we hope to maintain this form as we go forward. We have to be very cautious and we can’t base our next game on this game or previous results but overall the team showed character, especially when we had key players such as Roderick Mutuma out,” said Ruzive.

Hwange coach Bigboy Mawiwi was disappointed with his side’s performance, especially with their failure to convert in front of goal.

“It’s a cup game in which everyone wants to win but we failed to convert chances we got. We, however, have appreciated the way the team played and well done to Yadah,” he said.

“We have been playing good football but well, our opponents got just one chance which they converted while we had multiplied missed chances.”

“Naturally, we wanted to win this game but now we shift focus and aim at escaping relegation.”
