A 19-year-old Harare man yesterday appeared at the High Court after being arrested for allegedly raping his 15-year-old neighbour.
In her statement to the police, the victim said her assailant proposed love to her sometime last year and continued to do so until early 2017, but she turned down his proposal.
The state alleged that on September 3, the girl met the suspect at a bus stop on her way back from church.
It is alleged the man asked the girl to accompany him to a hill in the area where upon arrival, the suspect pushed the victim to the ground and had sexual intercourse with her without protection or her consent.
Prosecutors alleged that the suspect then instructed the girl not to come to his place of residence if she fell pregnant, saying he would deny any responsibility.
The offence came to light when the girls’ mother discovered blood stains on her daughter’s skirt. — GIFT NJIRISI
