The champions will land the coveted sole ticket to play in the topflight league next year.

As things stand, Shurugwi outfit Nichrut, as well as former premiership sides Tongogara and Whawha, are likely to know their fate when the final whistles are blown at three different match venues this afternoon.

Currently, Nichrut and Tongogara are tied at the top with 73 points, with the Shurugwi side beating the latter on a superior goal difference.

Whawha, who still have hopes of another dance with the premiership next season, are on third position having amassed 71 points so far.

In their last match, Nichrut travel to Kwekwe for a date with tricky Chrome Stars at Chrome Stadium where they hope to clinch the sole ticket by upsetting the chrome miners.

A win for the gold miners will ensure premiership football in Shurugwi next season irrespective of how Tongogara or Whawha play in their fixtures.

Tongogara will pray that their “homeboys” Chrome Stars beat Nichrut and that they also win against Ivan Hoe in a Kwekwe derby at Amaveni Stadium.

If Tongogara manage to go past Ivan Hoe and Chrome Stars and hold or beat Nichrut, they are assured of promotion into the premiership.

Whawha on the other hand, will have to beat Blanket Mine in Gwanda, hoping that Tongogara and Nichrut lose their fixtures and allow them to win the title in a smash and grab style.

Nichrut coach, John Nyakadzino said his eyes were on the price.

“I told my guys not to panic and play their ordinary game. It’s ours to lose and we have to bang in goals because they are the ones that matter. So, we will go for it as normal as possible. We must not succumb to pressure,” said the former Chapungu gaffer.

His Tongogara counterpart Kevin Sithole also called for calmness in the camp.

“We have been taking one step at a time and this is where we are now. We must not lose focus at the last minute. We should take it as any normal game and hopefully we will win,” Sithole said.

It remains to be seen who will have the last laugh come match day 34 when the top three teams in CSL battle for the sole ticket to the premiership.
