Chungwa scored his 17th goal of the season to finish five, ahead of Black Rhinos’ Lot Chiwunga and Dynamos’ Christain Epoupa.

Highlanders completed the season on sixth position, while last season’s champions CAPS United finished fifth.

Chungwa took advantage of Highlanders’ defence failure to communicate to put Caps United ahead in the 34th minute.

After the break, Gabriel Nyoni equalised for the home team in the 53rd minute with a shot from an awkward angle that beat goalkeeper Edmore Sibanda.

Highlanders’ supporters bade farewell to coach Erol Akbay, who took charge of the Bulawayo team for the last time yesterday.

Akbay said his side did not play badly, but made one mistake that gifted Makepekepe the goal in the 34th minute.

“It wasn’t bad. We made one mistake in the defence, but we also created a number of chances but could not bury them. We could have easily scored two or three goals. If a team’s defence is weak, then it gives the opponents the chance. In the second half, we changed a number of positions and we played much better and created more chances,” said Akbay.

He said considering that this was his last match, he will be moving back to his homeland, Netherlands and will make a decision on his next move then.

CAPS United coach Lloyd Chitembwe refused to grant the customary post-match interviews to the media after the match and instead sent the team’s physical trainer Majaha Ndlovu.

Meanwhile, in other matches Tsholotsho bid farewell to the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League with a goalless draw against Black Rhinos at Dulivhadzimo Stadium yesterday while there were also no goals between Ngezi Platinum and Triangle at Boabab Stadium.
