This was revealed when Stanley Muzamba from Chisuma Village under Chief Mvuthu appeared on Thursday before Victoria Falls resident magistrate Rangarirai Gakanje charged with unlawful entry, theft and escaping from custody.
He had been on the run for five days after allegedly stealing a 32 inch TV before throwing himself into the Zambezi River in a suicide attempt.
Prosecutor Listen Nare told the court that on November 22 Muzamba, a former Africa Premier Safaris employee entered the premises through a window and stole a 32 inch TV set and a piece of soap in one of the guest rooms.
He was apprehended the following day after police investigations and confessed to stealing the TV valued at $451.
Muzamba was cuffed with leg irons and taken to his homestead to get the goods.
It is alleged that as he was being escorted by two police officers, he escaped by plunging into Jembwe Gorges a few kilometres from his homestead.
