The musician formed a fabulous partnership with her husband, Ephraim, when they hogged the music limelight with the release of their album Rumbidzwai, which carried the song Mazambara.

However, the couple, popularly known as Baba naMai Patai, surprised all and sundry when they took a sabbatical from the music scene, only to resurface in 2010 after releasing an album titled Samulena.

Mai Patai told The Standard Style last week that she was working on a DVD for the album Makanaka as well as a new album titled Punish the Devil.

“I am in the studio working on a new album titled Punish the Devil which should be out next month. I am also shooting a video for one of my albums Makanaka, which I will relaunch next month as well,” she said.

Baba naMai Patai, who emerged as one of Gweru’s gospel music super couples in the early 2000s, are backed by the group Voice of Prophecy.

“Yes, as usual we are working together with Baba Patai. Each of us does their solo project with the backing of another and in this case, it is my project and Baba Patai is supporting me. Our group Voice of Prophecy is still intact,” she said.

The album Punish the Devil carries tracks such as Shoko RaMwari Rinesimba, Anokomborera, Moyo Munyoro and Usatye, among others.

Voice of Prophecy has released six albums and these include Shoko Seshoko, Rumbidzwai, Mabhiravira, Mbiri Kunashe, Makanaka and Samulena.

Mai Patai paid gratitude to her legion of followers who have remained loyal despite her lengthy absence from the music scene.

“I want to thank my fans who have always supported me even when I took long to record. I am back with a DVD album and a new album which I believe they will like and be blessed,” she said.
