A bogus Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) operative allegedly stole eight eggs from a Harare vendor and assaulted a police officer following his arrest by the victim.

Ivan Muremeredzo (35) was not asked to plead to theft and resisting arrest charges when he appeared before magistrate Gideon Ruvetsa last week. He was remanded to April 9 for trial
Prosecutors said Muremeredzo last Thursday found Margaret Chibvanyuke at the Harare Central Police Charge Office flea market and took the eggs she was selling and ate them.
He refused to pay for the eggs claiming he was a CIO agent, but an unconvinced Chibvanyuke dragged Muremeredzo to the adjacent police station. However, he hit Constable Martin Kwaramba with a fist on the lower lip when he was ordered to surrender his property before he could be detained. The stolen eggs were valued at $2.
