Several lives have been lost in the past as people tried to cross the flooded Nyamukunga River, while children going to Chinaa and Chikore schools were often marooned for days. A local resident, Chrispen Sidhuli Dhliwayo with the help of Nhamo Dhlakama, a businessman at Shekwa business centre, last year pushed for the construction of Nyamukunga Bridge resulting in Zinara releasing $36 000 for the project.

Construction of the bridge was expected to boost local businesses since there will be a good road network linking Shekwa, Chinaa and Maripita villages.

The project, which began last month, is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

Site foreman Kudakwashe Mlambo said similar projects were recently completed at Budzi Bridge in Chief Mapungwana’s area and Dakati Bridge in Chibuwe undertaken by Chipinge Rural District Council.
