BULAWAYO City signed off the first half of the 2018 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season with a win, edging fellow strugglers Mutare City Rovers in a dull match at Barbourfields Stadium yesterday.

Innocent Kutsanzira capitalised on a rebound from an Ishmael Wadi effort in the 69th minute to get the winner for Bulawayo City, who had gone for five matches without a win, with a draw and four defeats.
Coach Amini Soma-Phiri said he desperately needed the win and with the two-week break, he would be bringing in new personnel to beef up his squad. “All that was needed was a win. At least I have two weeks to take out some players and beef up the team. I have done my homework, I have no pressure and relegation is out,” Soma- Phiri said.
The win took them to 14 points.
Mutare City had a good chance to score seven minutes into the second half, but David Mangesi hit the cross bar from point-blank range with only goalkeeper Tafadzwa Dube to beat.
Mutare City remain anchored at the bottom of the log standings with 11 points and interim coach Ndega Matsika rued the missed chances by his side who played better in the opening stages of the second half.
“We tried our level best, created chances which we could not utilise. If you miss chances like that you are bound to lose the match. We need to rectify that to enhance our chances of survival,” Matsika said.
