Chitiyo, who is the brains behind the creatives at Esbro Security Systems, said young people should discover their latent capacities and engage in productive activities that could facilitate their self-sufficiency.

“As young people, we should not sit on our laurels and expect government to create jobs for us. We need to come up with innovative ways and be self-reliant for us to make a living,” he said.

Esbro Security Systems is a young engineering company owned by Jacob Esau and specialises in sliding gates, trellis doors, security screens and fencing, palisade, razor wire and steel doors, among others.

What makes Esbro Security Systems products stand out from others are the unique and unusual designs, thanks to Chitiyo’s innovativeness.

“I just have the belief that exclusivity sells, hence the reason why our products are out of this world. We have made inroads in this kind of business and we are getting a tremendous response from the market,” Chitiyo said.

“We have erected gates in many of the country’s towns, including Chinhoyi, Gweru, Shurugwi, Mutare, Masvingo, and, of course, Harare and Bulawayo.”

Chitiyo, learnt the basics of engineering from his father before he did his apprenticeship under the tutelage of prominent engineers. He said most of the designs were of his own creation although he borrows some from the internet.

“Our clientele is mostly the affluent. It is our uniqueness that has won us the hearts of many. People don’t like ordinary things,” he said.

“As we get into the festive period, we urge people to check their security and we have the solutions.”

Esau said the company was looking forward to employing more youths.

“Our thrust is youth empowerment and at Esbro Security Systems, we are looking forward to employ and train more youths to be self-reliant. We have engaged a local university where they will take on board students for attachment,” said Esau.

Esau said the biggest impediment facing the business was lack of materials due to closed steel-making companies.

“The market is flooded with fake imported material, so we need to be careful when choosing material. The closure of giant steel-manufacturing companies in the country is affecting us because we have to rely more on imported material,” he said.
