All is in now in place for the staging of the Old Mutual-sponsored 5km run/walk, which is targeting 500 married couples set for Belgravia on Saturday.

The event, dubbed Reach Out 500 — the first of its kind organised by a local marriage organisation Royal Families Ministry — seeks to celebrate marriages by strengthening the bond between married couples.

Some of the activities lined up for the day include renewal of marriage vows, Zumba, medical check-up, massage and photoshoots, among many others.

Event organiser and Royal Families Ministry Reverend Leopold Enson said preparations were at an advanced stage.

“According to our expectations, we are looking to surpass the 500 couples mark that we are targeting considering the response we have been getting and those already registered. Everything is almost in place now for the successful staging of the event,” Enson said.

“Basically, this idea is about celebrating marriage. We want to have couples review their relationships and renew their vows, which is why it’s called a run, walk and bond. The idea is to build the marriage relationship and also as a ministry we value marriage and health. There are many diseases that affect couples and most of these things can be abated when couples develop a culture of exercising and fitness consciousness.

“You may be wondering why 500 couples? It’s because the devil is not destroying marriages one at a time, but thousands at a time and we hear of it from the court statistics and worse for those customarily married. So, for a start Reach Out 500 will set the tone for marriage transformation in Zimbabwe.”

Enson revealed that the vision was to host the event twice a year and take it beyond the country’s borders.

“As we see it, this is going to be held twice a year going forward. We also have a South African group that we have been working with and we are thinking of taking the idea to South Africa and possibly to the rest of the region. The idea has generated a lot of interest beyond the country’s borders,” he said.

Established in 2013, Royal Families’ mission is to unite families through various activities such as marriage counselling, premarital counselling, school of marriage, retreats and picnics.
