The usually serene town of Marondera will on Saturday hold its first ever dog show with the unique event being held at the newly established Pagomo Leisure Centre.

The show will see dog handlers travelling from as far as Bulawayo to exhibit their canines, among other activities.

A number of veterinary experts will also grace the event in a move that is meant to give dog owners access to experts in the field.

This will be the first ever dog show to be held in the farming town, thereby giving dog lovers a chance to catch a glimpse of some of the best breeds in the country.

According to the organiser, Simba Erasmus Chatima, the dog show will see two judges taking the centre stage with winners walking away with various prizes.

“We are geared up for the event and we are expecting a number of dog handlers or owners from as far as Bulawayo come November 9,” he said.

“The event being the first of its kind in Marondera will also give a chance to locals to come out and exhibit their dogs.

“The judges will announce the winners, who will walk away with lucrative prizes.

“The main focus will be on dog sizes, that is from small to big, cover intelligence, discipline and obedience, among other things.

Since its launch early this year, Pagomo Leisure Centre has become the most popular joint in Marondera with its line-up of activities with tug-of-war tournaments proving to be the most popular.
