A Bindura man has been jailed for five years after he gouged out another man’s eye following a dispute over a catapult.

Edgar Makubwa (35) of Tarlington farm had six months of his sentence suspended on condition of good behaviour.

Prosecutor Vincent Marunya told the court that sometime in October, Makubwa had a misunderstanding with Chamaida Beven Maponga’s young brother over a catapult.

Makubwa who was holding a catapult stuck Maponga with a bolt on the left eye and it popped out, leaving him with a permanent injury.

He told the court that it was his friend who actually attacked Maponga but provincial magistrate Tinashe Ndokera dismissed his defence.
