THE Zimbabwe Republic Police is investigating one of its senior members accused of fraudulently releasing a vehicle that was kept as an exhibit.

The car, a Ford Ranger of South African origin, is reported to have been stolen in the neighbouring country but mysteriously disappeared from Beitbridge Police Station during a time when staff transfers were being activated.

Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the case, saying police will leave no stone unturned in their investigations

It is understood the car was being held by the Criminal Investigations Department after it was intercepted when it had been illegally brought into the country.

During a time when some policeman were transferred en-masse, the suspect authorised the release of the vehicle without following procedure.

Police in South Africa were reportedly waiting to have the car handed over to them when it was discovered missing.
