Why only Zapu officials speak on Unity

My Dear People, It is that time of the year when we are fed with useless propaganda over the Unity Accord.

The Horrid newspaper and Dead BC can be counted on to play a big role in dishing out some of the most useless clap trap about the so called Unity Day.

In the past when Robert Mugabe and Joshua Nkomo were still alive, some show of seriousness was made to observe Unity Day.

But as soon as they exited the stage, every effort was made to try and give it any form of significance.

It is like how all those Simon Muzenda houses and other efforts to preserve his legacy have all been thrown in the dust bin.

The same fate is likely to befall the Robert Mugabe National Youth holiday and its attendant 21st February Movement cousin.

But back to the Unity Day.

The day is a bit uncomfortable particularly to those who have been accused of playing significant roles in the genocide of the early 1980s.

Some lunatics or perpetrators of the blood letting sometimes call the military excesses of that period as “post war disturbances”.

They are the first to squeal that there is need to let bygones be bygones and the need to bury the hatchet.

Some fellows have countered that by saying the hatchet needs to be buried in their heads.

As people become more and more enlightened, it has become very clear to many that, some of the young men and women who had just come from the war of liberation were blood thirsty genocidal mass murderers who are clear candidates for the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Someone whispered to Doctor Amai that a large section of the military junta has to deal with some of the inconvenient realities of accusations that they were active participants in the genocide and, therefore, unfit to govern the country.

That same person, who whispered to Doctor Amai has also indicated that quite a large number of those people are very scared of being arraigned before the ICC, meaning they suspect or believe they were involved in acts that make them automatic candidates to appear before the ICC.

But I do digress.

So back to the Unity Day. The day on which after watching thousands of Zimbabwean bodies piling up in their thousands at the hands of the Zimbabwean military and intelligence services, Nkomo succumbed to pressure from his rivals in Zanu and dismantled his party.

According to Simon Khaya Moyo, the ruling party spokesman, in an article that appeared in The Horrid last week, Unity Day commemorates the signing of the unity agreement between Zanu (PF) and PF-Zapu to form the new Zanu PF!

A clear case of surrender due to being arm-twisted.

All because Zanu wanted a one party state and absolute power.

So, why is it that the Unity Accord is for the people of the south western parts of Zimbabwe, encompassing parts of the Midlands and Matebeleland?

And this week it was a son of Matebeleland, Simon Moyo who was made to speak about Unity Day and its importance while lamenting the absence of any formal activities to commemorate the day.

Maybe other senior government officials such as vice president Constantine Chiwenga, Perrance Shiri, Lizard Lacoste and Oppah Muchinguri will also speak about the importance of the Unity Accord.

Others have even suggested that the day be changed to Remembrance Day in memory of those who died in the genocide.

Drama Kings and Queens The headlines in the last week were dominated by the unfolding divorce case between Chiwenga and his wife Marry.

Given what has happened over the last few days, it is understandable that some jokes have already been crafted as a result of the drama generated by the case, which included touches of attempted murder and some James Bond like skulduggery.

Some have been premised on how if Zimbabwean men now want to divorce their wives, all they need to do is to call in the Zimbabwe Anti Corruption Commission (Zacc).

Sort of like the A Team

Others had already concluded that Zacc is an organisation that was formed to fight women such as Prisca Mupfumira and Marry Chiwenga.

This did not go down well with Zacc who quickly rolled out some statistics on who had been arrested or investigated.

Predictably they said nothing about the senior Lacoste official who was arrested and released on the orders of someone very, very, very senior.
