letter to my people:BY DOCTOR STOP IT

My Dear People, Most of you will have been perplexed by the negative attitude that the Zanu PF government exhibits towards teachers.

The hostile and negative attitude is not just displayed towards teachers, but towards just about everybody in Zimbabwe.

But for now let us stick to teachers.

An MP recently touched on the reason why our educational system is in decay.

He said our educational system could not be expected to be functional if ministers administering it were sending their children to get a foreign education in the United Kingdom, the United States of America and other parts of Europe.

At the very best, the ministers’ children attending local schools were children sired with “small houses”, added the MP.

So it follows that if the Zanu PF government has no interest in developing local educational standards, then it would certainly have no interest in the welfare of local teachers.

Right now, teachers are being treated poorly ahead of soldiers and the education standards are fast collapsing beyond a point of no return.

Asking for better pay has seen teachers being treated as a rebel movement.

As a way of guaranteeing their stay in power, Zanu PF has been keeping security forces, particularly the soldiers, happy with better salaries.

Don’t we all remember how those boys and girls in green fatigues can change governments overnight?

As has been said above, teachers and ordinary Zimbabweans should never expect an improved educational system from the ministers deployed by Zanu PF because the party leadership has no interest in developing or improving local educational standards.

They send their children outside the country to get a foreign education.

The presidential scholarship scheme was designed for such chicanery in which the state would fund the free education of senior Zanu PF officials.

A few deserving people from poor backgrounds were added to the scholarship party, but the majority of them were well connected rich children and relatives of the ruling elite.

For the benefit of poor ordinary card-carrying Zanu PF members and other Zimbabweans, the Border Gezi youth militia was created in order to absorb their children.

The rotten attitude exhibited by the Zanu PF government towards teachers is the same towards all Zimbabweans.

You could just look at any sector and the attitude is the same.

Let’s take the health sector, for example.

How do you have a Health ministry whose minister receives treatment in South Africa, India and China and expect him to have a clear understanding of issues back home?

In fact, the entire top Zanu PF leadership receives medical treatment in foreign countries, so why would they care about the welfare of health workers?

That is why they can afford to fire nurses and doctors at the drop of a hat or alternatively starve them until they cannot afford to come to work anymore.

Why would they care? If they develop a headache, they will rush to a hospital in South Africa, UK or Botswana where they are most likely to be treated by Zimbabweans who fled the country as economic refugees in search of a better life.

Even in Belarus they march The people of Belarus have been rioting for weeks on end.

They complain that the current president retained power through electoral theft and fraud.

He is one of the few absolute ruthless dictators in Europe.

Even more intriguing is how we as Zimbabwe have continued to maintain cosy relations with the despot.

We have been receiving freebies from that lot, including buses, mining equipment and other suspicious deals.

Belarus has in the past proved to be an unfaithful business partner after it supplied fourth-rate substandard equipment to Hwange Colliery.

We hope they are not consultants of any form in the area of electoral management.

A lot can be gauged from the kind of company that we keep.

Belarus, North Korea, Iran — what a collection!

Besides being a tinpot dictator, the president of Belarus still allows the people of that country to hold protest marches.

Surely that’s not too much to ask for the people of Zimbabwe to be allowed to exercise their constitutional rights.

Whose heroes?

A question that is being asked frequently of late is if the people in Zanu PF and government are indeed heroes.

Whose heroes are they, if indeed they are?

In addition, the question has been asked if they were the only heroes of the liberation struggle.

Why should the taxpayer be burdened with footing the burial costs of an individual?

How does a taxpayer from the opposition contribute to the burial of an individual who belonged to Zanu PF?

Zanu PF is a private organisation and, as such, its members cannot be buried for free by the taxpayer.

The cost of burying Zanu PF heroes should be met by their party and not the people of Zimbabwe.

After presiding over the economic collapse of Zimbabwe, can such people be called national heroes?

The question needs to be asked. Since it is a given, except in very exceptional circumstances, that national heroes are Zanu PF members, then who should foot the cost of the burial?
