I was travelling from home into town in a commuter omnibus and I was in deep thought. A word came into my mind and the Lord said, “Find out what it means.” The word was proseuche. I took out my phone and when I searched I found out it meant to meditate (meditation means to spend time in quiet thought for religious purposes or relaxation).

The information I got was not satisfactory so I searched more. The definition I liked the most said it was a place of prayer. Let’s break down the word together. The first part of the word proseuche is the word, “pros”, which means “belong to” or “come near to”. Imagine this word means prayer place and the first part of that word means belong to.
The first thing to understand about prayer is you have to belong to the household of God. If you have not accepted Jesus as your Lord, you cannot enjoy the benefits of prayer. Yes, God does speak and manifest Himself to those who have yet accepted Jesus as Lord of their lives, but may often manifest in order to reveal His Jesus.
A lot of people have tried meditation outside of God’s Word or without God’s Spirit. When you meditate without the Word of God you attract demons and evil spirits. Most people who have reached highest stages of enlightenment through meditation outside of God’s Word or church have done this through demonic inspiration.
Jesus is the way, the truth and the life and there is no other way to God, but through Jesus. Yes, there are many religions but what divides them is not what they believe, but who they worship or believe in. The terms seem almost similar and at times it’s easy to assume people follow the same deity, but it is not so.
When we look again at the word proseuche it changes the way you pray because when you understand that you belong to God, you don’t come into His presence with fear, but boldly to be intimate with your Creator. The word has other meanings like “to pertain to” or “draw nigh”. It means “drawing very close” as if to speak something clearly and intimately from very close proximity. The word is a call to not only fellowship, but to intimately fellowship with God.
Christianity is not a religion, but a it’s a call to a relationship with the Creator of the world through Christ Jesus.

Many believers have made prayer to be religious rather than intimate. When you are in prayer and are intimate with the Father you get to experience His love and power at another dimension. That day when God spoke to me about proseuche it allowed me to have deeper understanding of Christianity and the place of Jesus in the equation. Outside of Christ they is no religion and your relationship with God starts the day you acknowledge what God came to do through Jesus Christ. Yes, some have reached enlightenment and have gained great wisdom through selfless acts of meditation. Monks can do inhumanly possible feats because of their discipline, but anything outside of God, like the writer of proverbs said, it’s vanity upon vanity. God bless you.
