Two men from Beitbridge were yesterday sentenced to 20 years each after being convicted of stealing TelOne copper wires in Shurugwi.

Abel Nesu (21) and Lovemore Mhlanga (20) appeared before Gweru regional magistrate Pathekile Msipa, who handed them a 10-year jail term on each count for stealing copper cables.

The State said on April 1 this year, the two cut and took approximately eight by 100m of drop fibre cables from a telephone line at Marikano Plot along Link Road in Shurugwi.

They repeated the offense in Rensburg area in Shurugwi where they cut 900m of drop copper cables from a telephone line.

On April 14, police received a tip-off from members of the public that accused persons were in possession of cables at a house in Sebanga Extension in Shurugwi.

The total value of the stolen property is $27 300 and all was recovered.
