TWO male suspects were yesterday arrested in Mutare after they were found in possession of 1 080kg of dagga.

Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident.

Nyathi said Larry Clay Manyellah (38) and Probe Zijena (21) were travelling in a green Toyota Granvia vehicle along Mutare-Masvingo Highway when they were stopped by police at Hotsprings, but failed to comply, hit roadblock drums before speeding off towards Mutare.

“The police team gave chase and alerted all police checkpoints in the city to be on the lookout for the suspects,” he said.

“On realising that all police checkpoints were alerted, the two suspects headed to Chikanga location in Mutare, where they were involved in a minor road accident where they abandoned their vehicle and fled into a nearby maize field.”

Nyathi said the police attended the accident scene and found dagga in the suspects’ vehicle.

Nyathi said further investigations led to the arrest of the two, while one suspect is still at large.

“The suspects have since appeared before a Mutare magistrate, where they were remanded in custody pending bail application,” he said.
