Mafiyosi set to quench fans’ thirst

SOUTH AFRICA-BASED Zimbabwean gospel singer Norest Mafiyosi says he has something brewing for his fans and is confident that the forthcoming release set for April will prove his maturity in the music industry.

Born and bred in Zvimba, Mashonaland West province, Mafiyosi told NewsDay Life & Style from his Cape Town base that gospel music is his calling and a unique way to minister and share God’s goodness and preach salvation to sinners.

“I grew up loving music, especially gospel. The love of music stirred me to record my own music in October 2020 with Munotichengeta Baba being my first song. The song was well received by the audience and this gave me the courage to record another single Kudadirana about two months later (December),” Mafiyosi recalled.

“As I continued to push for the best, I then recorded my debut video for the song Munotichengeta Baba in 2021 and went on to release my first six-track album titled: Tsvagai Jehovah in August 2022. The album, which was recorded at Kunashe Studios by Olin Anderson, was well received and got airplay from different radio stations in Zimbabwe and Mozambique.”

Mafiyosi, who signalled his arrival on the gospel music scene in 2020, draws inspiration from gospel music legend and cleric Charles Charamba.

He also said the late gospel diva Joyce Simeti had an influence on his career.

“The Lord has been faithful to my career. My love of gospel music and the desire to spread the word of God through music has played a crucial role for me to become the artiste I am today,” he said.

“As it has been long without some new music on the market, I will be releasing a new single titled Nyasha next month. Those fans who want to support my career can access my music on all online music platforms.”
