Leave a lasting legacy, ED urged

Speaking during the CEO Africa Round Table held in Victoria Falls last week under the theme Towards African Renaissance: Prospering through Smart Partnerships, Mafukidze said Mnanagwa needs to start working on uplifting the country’s standards to attain the 2030 upper-middle income status.

ALPHA Media Holdings (AMH) chief executive Kenias Mafukidze has urged President Emmerson Mnangagwa to leave a lasting legacy of a prosperous Zimbabwe.

“Elections are done, It’s now time to work and all these people, women, men, black, white, red, whatever, they only have one president,” Mafukidze said.

“Whether they like it or not, make it count, make every Zimbabwean, whatever colour, feel that this is their country too because only that way can we get that growth running from 5% to 50%.

“This is not a moment for you (President) to be playing around and trying to figure out, it’s for you to leave a legacy. How do you do that? The 300 people here are here to help you achieve that legacy and achievement of that legacy, I think it revolves around a couple of things.

He said Zimbabwe deserved to be a middle-income economy as it has the human capital and natural resources to achieve that. s.

“I would advise you to go and sleep and think about a legacy project, look at Malaysia, the Petronas Towers; they built it for nothing other than legacy in making a dent on history. I mean, the roadworks we have done are second to none.”

Meanwhile, CEO Africa Round Table chairperson Oswell Binha said Zimbabwe has the potential to achieve an upper middle-income economy by 2030, but Africa as a whole needs to catch up.

“Key policy and strategic ingredients for our attention as we look at how to transform Africa’s economy to induce a respectable position on a global economic platform will include, but not limited to the following: We need to develop effort and energies in guarding and maintaining peace jealously.”
