Man from Hatcliff will spend the next 15 years in jail following his conviction on charges of raping a minor

A 29-year-old man from Hatcliff will spend the next 15 years in jail following his conviction on charges of raping a minor aged 16.

The convict, Munyaradzi Mhlanga, appeared before magistrate Francis  Mapfumo .

Mhlanga was jointly charged with his mother Elizabeth Mupama with the latter also facing a charge of human trafficking.

Mapfumo sentenced Mupama to five years in jail for her role.

The magistrate said the two committed the offence in an aggravating matter considering they lured the minor from Chipinge after promising her a job as a housemaid.

The court ruled that Mupama concealed the rape.

Prosecutor Shylenn Sadomba told the court that the two convicts approached the complainant's mother and offered her daughter a job as a housemaid.

Mupama told the complainant when they arrived at her house that she was not her daughter in law.

Sadomba proved that the minor was later raped by Mhlanga.

The following morning after the sexual assault, the minor informed Mapama about what had transpired the previous night and she promised to talk to her son.

The complainant realising that Mapama did not take any action pertaining the sexual abuse, then escaped from the house to make a police report leading to their arrest.
