First Mutual celebrates scholarship graduates

Two beneficiaries of the First Mutual Foundation Scholarship Fund, Ian Majaisi and Talent Zhou, have graduated from the University of Zimbabwe with Upper Second-Class Honours degrees (2.1) in Actuarial Science, marking a proud moment for both the students and the foundation.

The two join a growing list of young Zimbabweans whose educational journeys have been transformed through support from the First Mutual Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of First Mutual Holdings Limited (FMHL).

Actuarial science is regarded as one of the most challenging programmes in higher education, and their achievement has been described as a testament to resilience and academic excellence.

Speaking after the announcement, Farai Mangwende, First Mutual Group strategic and communications manager, said the success of the graduates demonstrated the foundation’s commitment to investing in education as a catalyst for change.

“The First Mutual Foundation is proud to be part of Ian and Talent’s success story. We believe in their potential, and that of all our scholarship recipients, to become future leaders, innovators, and changemakers. Their achievements reflect the vision of the Foundation to nurture excellence and create opportunities for young people to reach their full potential,” Mangwende said.

The First Mutual Foundation Scholarship Fund was established to support vulnerable children and ensure that financial challenges do not prevent them from accessing quality education.

Since its inception, the programme has assisted learners from primary through tertiary education, improving attendance, retention, and progression rates.

FMHL said it would continue expanding its support to talented students across Zimbabwe, aligning its CSR programme with the company’s broader goal of contributing to national development through education.
