Police in Shamva are searching for five armed suspects who stormed a mine and robbed several miners of cash, mobile phones and a quantity of elution liquid used in gold processing.

The incident occurred recently, with the robbers targeting five individuals.

After the heist, the assailants discarded the stolen phones at the site's guardroom, where they were later recovered.

A toy gun, believed to have been used in the robbery, was also found.

Mashonaland Central deputy police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Lucy Chigwenhese, confirmed the incident and the ongoing investigation.

"We are investigating a case of robbery in Shamva where five armed suspects robbed victims of their cellphones, money, and a liquid chemical used in gold processing," Chigwenhese said.

Police are now appealing to the public for any information that could lead to the arrest of the five suspects.
