HWANGE are just two wins away from a return to the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League, three years after relegation at the end of 2019.

The coalminers maintained their five-point lead on the Southern Region Division One league table daspite playing to a 1-1 draw with fellow contenders, ZPC Hwange in a fiery derby at Ingagula Stadium in the coal-mining town on Saturday.

Hwange, coached by Try Ncube, are on 79 points and could be declared champions if they win their next game at home to Ajax Hotspurs and ZPC Hwange on 74 points, lose their next game away to Indlovu Iyanyathela in Bulawayo.

It is now a two-horse race in the league as Talen Vision, sitting on position three with 65 points will only get to 74 points if they win all their remaining three games.

Talen Vision got three points on a silver platter on a 3-0 scoreline on Saturday after Indonsakusa pulled out of the league mid-way through the season due to financial incapacitation.

Arenel also put up some stiff competition for the better part of the season but are fourth on the log table with 64 points after beating Mountain Climbers 1-0 away at Luveve.

Zimbabwe Saints, who found themselves in Division One to compete for a return to the top league, struggled and face relegation, teetering on position 16 in the 18-team league with 26 points in 31 games but have a chance to save themselves if they win all their remaining games.

They played to a goalless draw against CIWU at the weekend while Quality Foods on position 17, also with 26 points, lost 2-1 to Bossso 90 who have also struggled in the league this year, but look safe on 13th with 46 points.
