Chiefs reinforce bench ahead of FC Platinum tie

Chiefs went on to play a goalless draw against ZPC Kariba at Luveve and lost 2-0 to Black Rhinos away from home.

BULAWAYO Chiefs have roped in Bekithemba “Super” Ndlovu as assistant coach to Johanisi Nhumwa and will be on the bench as The Ninjas host FC Platinum in Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match at Luveve Stadium this afternoon.

Ndlovu has been on the sidelines since he left Green Fuel in April.

Chiefs’ spokesperson Thulani Sibanda yesterday confirmed Ndlovu is now part of the side’s technical team.

“He (Ndlovu) is now the assistant coach to (Johanisi) Nhumwa and will be on the bench tomorrow (today) when we play FC Platinum,” Sibanda said.

All is not well at Chiefs and coach Nhumwa is yet to win a match since arriving at the club, losing his first game to Highlanders in a penalty shootout in the Chibuku Super Cup after The Ninjas put up a brilliant performance to hold the Bulawayo giants to a 2-2 stalemate in regulation time.

Chiefs went on to play a goalless draw against ZPC Kariba at Luveve and lost 2-0 to Black Rhinos away from home.

Their last win was in July when they edged Caps United 2-1 at Luveve.

They have 24 points from 20 games with six wins, six draws and eight defeats.

They face FC Platinum, who had also gone on a six-match winless streak until last week when they handed league pacesetters Highlanders their first defeat and come into today’s game full of confidence after that win.

FC Platinum gaffer Norman Mapeza admits all has not been rosy for the Zvishavane-based side and hopes the win against Highlanders catapults them forward.

“I think we are in the same situation (with Chiefs) but after our win against Highlanders, I hope it’s a sign of better things to come. We just have to pick up from where we left against Highlanders… I hope we are going to continue from where we left off,” Mapeza said.

Mapeza reckons his young side has been playing well but they have not been lucky.

The reigning champions are on position six with 30 points, eleven behind Highlanders and having to contend with Ngezi Platinum Stars, Manica Diamonds, Dynamos and Chicken Inn in their fight to win their fifth title in a row.
