LM Auctioneers celebrated the retirement of former Mighty Warriors captain Felistas "Figo" Muzongondi with a simple but heartfelt ceremony at Old Hararians Sports Club yesterday.
Figo, who led Zimbabwe to the Rio Olympics, was given a trophy for her outstanding service to football. Like a good dancer, Muzongondi bade farewell to the game on her peak. She was the 2024 Heart Women Premier Soccer League top goal scorer. Even doubling up as Black Rhinos Queens player coach she netted 12 times last season.
As she transitioned into coaching, LM Auctioneers threw a bashment for Figo, in honour of her outstanding service to the sport.
The atmosphere was electric, with friends, family, and former teammates turning out to celebrate her illustrious career. Her former national teammates present at the bash included Rudo Neshamba and Marjory Nyaumwe among others.
Her former national team coach Rose Mugadza gave a heartfelt tribute, praising Figo's leadership and commitment to the game.
"She's a true inspiration to many young girls out there. Her work ethic and passion for the game are qualities that we can all learn from. I encourage all youngsters to pluck a leaf from Felistas' book – she's a true legend of Zimbabwean football," she said.
Lewis Muzhara, director of LM Auctioneers, echoed these sentiments, thanking Figo for the memories she's created on the pitch.
"We've had some incredible moments with you, Figo, and we're honoured to be a part of your journey. We're excited to see where your coaching career takes you – you're going to crush it," Muzhara said.
