The Matchday One Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match between Dynamos FC and TelOne FC is set to take place this morning after it was postponed due to massive waterlogging at Ascot Stadium in Gweru.

Even after significant efforts from Gweru City Council officials to drain the pitch after an excessive downpour, the field remained unplayable. Consequently, match commissioner Brighton Nyika called off the fixture, deeming the surface unsafe for the players.

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) issued an official statement confirming the postponement and the rescheduling of the fixture:

"The Premier Soccer League wishes to advise all stakeholders that the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match between Telone FC and Dynamos FC which was scheduled to take place today at Ascot Stadium has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch following persistent rainfall,” PSL said.

“In the interest of player safety and to preserve the quality of the playing surface, a decision has been made in accordance with the PSL rules and regulations to defer the fixture due to force majeure.

“The match has now been rescheduled for this morning 8 March 2026 at 1000 hours at Ascot Stadium."

Speaking shortly after the decision was made, Nyika noted that while they hoped for a quick recovery of the turf, the weather did not cooperate.

"The pitch was waterlogged, so we were hoping it was going to improve, but as of now, there is no improvement," he said.

"According to PSL regulations, this is a forced match-off, so the game should be played tomorrow [Sunday] at 10am, provided the pitch has improved and it doesn't rain heavily again."

The PSL concluded their statement by expressing regret for the disruption: "The Premier Soccer League regrets any inconvenience caused and appreciates the support of all our stakeholders."
