Chikamhi nominated for the Excellency Iconic Award in India

Desmond's commitment to World Life Changers is deeply personal.

Zaka-born development practitioner, author, and theologian Desmond Chikamhi has dedicated his life to uplifting orphans and vulnerable children through his organisation, World Life Changers.

Known for its holistic approach to community development, World Life Changers addresses the diverse challenges faced by disadvantaged members of society, providing educational support, healthcare and disaster relief among other services.

In recognition of his tireless efforts and impactful leadership, Desmond has been nominated for the prestigious Excellency Iconic Award in the field of Community Development Leadership.

This honor, part of the Excellency Awards 2025, a flagship annual event organised by Three Fingers Entertainment Limited in collaboration with LimeLight Achiever's Awards—celebrates remarkable individuals and organisations for their outstanding contributions in their respective fields.

The awards ceremony is set to take place on August 30, 2025 in New Delhi, India.

Desmond's commitment to World Life Changers is deeply personal.

He reflects on his upbringing, stating that the award bears testimony to his commitment to humanitarian service.

"I was born and raised in Zaka Jerera, Masvingo under a very difficult and humbling environment. My father left me in the care of my polygamous father and his three wives at the tender age of six."

These early struggles instilled in him a passion for humanitarian work.

"Growing up in a big family where my father struggled to fend for us was not easy. I would work in other people’s fields just to get by and at least have a chance at education," he recalls.

Thanks to government support under the BEAM initiative, Desmond received educational opportunities that set the foundation for his future, even though he could not attend college initially.

He later enrolled at the prominent Zimbabwe Christian College, which he credits for shaping his values and commitment to community service.

"My life struggles opened my eyes to the many challenges that other vulnerable and disadvantaged members of society face," Desmond explains.

"Even with very little resources at my disposal, I felt compelled to play my part in alleviating human suffering through World Life Changers."

The organisation has been commended for its holistic approach, with programs focusing on educational support, gender and social inclusion, healthcare, and disaster relief.

"Through our Educational Support programme, we ensure that orphans and vulnerable children have access to quality education by providing scholastic materials such as books and tuition fees," he says.

"It’s not just about access; it’s about the quality of education."

Desmond emphasised the importance of inclusivity, highlighting that no one must be left behind in the development agenda. "We are ensuring that we leave no one behind, accommodating every child regardless of race, nationality, creed, gender, or religion. While we fight for the girl child, we also promote equal opportunities for all,” he said.

World Life Changers has also demonstrated its commitment to timely humanitarian responses. During Cyclone Idai, the organization assisted over fifty thousand families with non-food relief items.

"We are quite intentional about making a difference in society and are happy to be a beacon of hope for many disadvantaged communities in Zimbabwe," he said.

As the date for the Excellency Awards 2025 approaches, the excitement builds—not just for Desmond but for all those who have been touched by the work of World Life Changers.

This nomination is not just a personal achievement; it represents the collective efforts of a community united in hope and resilience. Desmond Chikamhi stands as a beacon of hope, ready to shine even brighter on this prestigious stage.
