As the country commemorates 16 days of activism against gender-based violence (GBV), which started last Thursday, a contemporary music duet has released a single meant to raise awareness on the societal ill.
Speaking to Standard Style, the duo of Fungai Kativhu (T-Hustle) and Russel Tawanda Matinyarare (Russel Tawanda) said the rising cases of GBV inspired their single titled Chakafukidza.
“The overwhelming number of domestic violence cases prevailing in this country and leading to broken marriages largely influenced this project,” said 30-yearold T-Hustle.
“It’s something that we always read in the press and is being broadcast on radio and television.
“This really moved us to also add our own voice of chastisement through this song,
Russel Tawanda saying many times couples pretend to be enjoying blissful marriages while privately their relationships will be at their lowest ebb.
“The song speaks on what happens in marriages where couples try to portray rosy marriages while hiding deep conflicts happening in their relationships,” he said.

“So, here we are encouraging to speak out rather than to do the unthinkable like we are witnessing today where partners are killing each other much to the shock of the community who would have envisaged a ‘heaven-on-earth’ marriage.”
The song, a fusion of hip-hop and R‘n’B, was produced by rising music producer Young Buoy of Future Studios and a video accompanying the song is already out .
The single by the duo comes at a time when the country has been witnessing worsening cases of GBV.
Early this month, a Gweru man Francis Manyimo killed his wife and two kids in unclear circumstances.
T-Hustle has been in the music industry since 2012 and has released around 50 songs to date while featuring on over 30 music tracks .
He has worked with Russel Tawanda on more than 15 projects after they met in 2013.
