Top SA gospel singer to headline Call to Worship annual festival

Renowned South African gospel powerhouse and award-winning singer Ntokozo Mbambo will headline this year’s Call to Worship “Night of Worship”, set for October 11 at the Harare Gardens.

The celebrated worship and praise leader —  widely regarded as one of Africa’s best gospel voices — will lead thousands of worshippers in an evening of praise and worship, which will also feature the Call to Worship Choir, alongside various church choirs, the organisers have said.

“I can confirm that Ntokozo Mbambo will be singing and worshipping with us at this year’s Night of Worship. Yes, those attending can expect an anointed evening of worship and powerful praise as we come together to uplift the name of Jesus,” said Apostle Philip Pike, the co-founder of Call to Worship Global.

“We are excited, because there’s something powerful about people coming together with one heart and in one spirit: To worship and to praise the Living God! Even as He is lifted up, lives will be restored.

“We in fact see the event as a celebration of God’s goodness and a sacred space for healing, restoration and unity,” he added.

Mbambo, who was born in 1985, began singing gospel music at the age of tender age of 15, when she joined the world-renowned gospel ensemble Joyous Celebration, becoming the youngest member of the group at the time.

Her breakout solo career eventually established her as one of South Africa and continent’s most respected gospel artistes and worship leaders.

Over the years, she has won numerous top awards, including the Crown Gospel Awards and the South African Music Awards.

She has also performed on the biggest gospel stages internationally, alongside top gospel musicians such as Nathaniel Bassey and many others, extending her influence far beyond South Africa.

Renowned for her powerful vocals and her deep spiritual conviction, Mbambo’s music is marked by themes that include restoration, healing and intimacy with God.

Her catalogue includes hit songs such as Jehovah is Your Name, In the Shadow, Esiphambanweni, Worship Medley, and Filled. Her live DVD Spirit and Life, offering worshippers a deep encounter with God through her music, has cemented her place as a true, global gospel icon.

Call to Worship Night of Worship — now regarded as one of Zimbabwe’s largest interdenominational gatherings —  is expected to draw thousands of believers and worshippers for a night of worship, praise, prayer and fellowship.

Reflecting on Call to Worship’s journey, Apostle Pike said the vision was always rooted in unity, rather than staging an event.

“Seventeen years ago, the Call to Worship movement was born from a deep desire to create a unified altar of worship in Zimbabwe, where all denominations, cultures, and generations could come together to honour God,” he said.

“It was never about building a stage, but about building an atmosphere — one voice, one altar, one sound to the King of Kings.”
