Baba Harare clarifies faith and career path

Baba Harare, who previously flirted with a shift to gospel music, said he is returning full-time to the jiti sound that has defined his career.

Popular jiti musician Baba Harare has reaffirmed his Christian faith while at the same time declaring his commitment to his jiti music career, following days of public debate sparked by his remarks on the state of the gospel industry.

In a public statement, the artist — born Braveman Chizvino — addressed speculation that he had abandoned his faith, clarifying that his earlier criticism was directed at the gospel music industry and its exploitative tendencies, not Christianity itself.

“Let me make this clear: I am a Christian, and I will continue to be. That will never change,” Baba Harare emphasised.

Baba Harare, who previously flirted with a shift to gospel music, said he is returning full-time to the jiti sound that has defined his career.

He insisted that his choice of genre does not diminish his faith, but instead allows him to balance his beliefs with his craft and livelihood.

“When it comes to my career, I will be singing Jiti music. This is because I believe the two can co-exist. I can remain true to my faith while also being true to my craft and livelihood,” he said.

The artist acknowledged that his fans had patiently stood by him during his recent period of self-reflection, as he grappled with aligning his faith with his musical career.

With his renewed commitment to Jiti, Baba Harare expressed gratitude to his supporters and promised more music and performances.

“Being a Jiti artist does not make me less of a Christian than someone who solely sings gospel music,” he declared.

Baba Harare’s statement signals a return to the vibrant jiti scene, a genre he has been credited with shaping and popularising on the local music landscape.

His return is expected to reignite excitement among jiti lovers and reassert his role as one of the genre’s leading voices.

“Here’s to more success, more wins, and more music,” Baba Harare concluded, assuring fans that he is back to doing what he loves most.
