Primary and Secondary Education deputy minister Angeline Gata and St Luke's Apostolic Ejiwel Jekenishen Church leader, Archbishop Phillip Pferedzai, have commended the media and the Zimbabwe Republic Police for advancing peace and gender equality across the country.
Speaking through a representative at the church's annual women's fellowship conference and 30th anniversary, attended by thousands of congregants, Gata underscored the vital role played by the media and law enforcement agencies in building an inclusive society.
“The media and police have been instrumental in disseminating information that encourages peaceful coexistence among communities. Their efforts have contributed to bridging the gender gap, promoting fairness, and ensuring equal opportunities for all,” she said.
Ward 16 councillor for Mutema-Musikavanhu constituency, Lazarus Machuwaire, also stressed the importance of engagement in empowering communities.
“By engaging with local communities, these institutions have helped raise awareness about important issues and empowered citizens to take action,” he said.
Archbishop Pferedzai echoed the same sentiments, expressing gratitude to both the media and police for promoting unity and sustaining peace.
He also called for vigilance in the fight against gender-based violence, praising women in the church for their peer-to-peer engagements, counselling, conflict resolution, and tireless work in addressing societal challenges.
“We appreciate the efforts of women in the church who have been actively involved in peer-to-peer engagements, counselling services, conflict management, and resolution. Their collaborative, tireless efforts in fighting societal ills are essential,” Pferedzai said.
