A new tourism venture, PaBuja Resort, is set to transform Mutoko into a vibrant agri-tourism hub, showcasing the rich culture of the VaBuja people while contributing to Zimbabwe’s rural economic growth.
Located about 25 kilometres from Mutoko centre, the resort is the brainchild of local businessman Tawanda Kabasa, founder of Greater Valley Fresh Company.
The 28-hectare project features horticulture, beekeeping, rabbit rearing, and poultry enterprises, complemented by modern chalets designed for visitors seeking serenity in a rural setting.
Kabasa’s vision is to promote the unique heritage of the VaBuja people by blending cultural experiences with modern comforts such as Wi-Fi and television.
During a media tour to assess progress on the project, ward 21 councillor Sanny Kabichi, representing the Mutoko Rural District Council, praised the initiative as a major step toward achieving Vision 2030, Zimbabwe’s goal of becoming an upper-middle-income economy.
“Initiatives like PaBuja Resort are instrumental in driving rural development and contributing to the country’s economic growth,” said Kabichi.
“The resort is expected to create employment for over 300 community members, both directly and indirectly. Mr Kabasa’s commitment to empowering local communities is evident in his efforts to showcase the VaBuja culture and promote sustainable agriculture practices.”
PaBuja Resort managing director and spokesperson, Jonathan Chikasha, said the facility aims to redefine rural tourism by offering visitors a blend of traditional charm and modern leisure.

“We take pride in our VaBuja culture. Visitors will experience our heritage and the tranquility of this place while enjoying modern amenities,” said Chikasha.
“The resort will feature activities such as camping, open-air music concerts, draught beer, and waterfront chalets for a unique countryside experience.”
The project aligns with the government’s rural industrialisation agenda, highlighting how private investment can spur economic activity and create jobs in rural communities.
With its fusion of culture, adventure, and relaxation, PaBuja Resort is poised to become one of Mutoko’s premier tourist destinations — celebrating Zimbabwe’s heritage and entrepreneurial spirit.
