The Zimbabwe Hip-Hop Awards, held in December, heralded the arrival of a new “Queen on the block” hailing from the heart of Matabeleland South.
Representing Gwanda with pride, Easy Ice lived up to her moniker during the official cypher—delivering a performance that was effortless in style yet devastating in lyrical weight.
Holding her own against a formidable cast including Hooksmith, Reaper and Kurry Suave, she proved that her seat at the table is well-earned.
For Easy Ice, born Esther Ngwaru in 2002, rap is far more than entertainment; it is an ancestral record.
Growing up amidst the grit of a mining town, her early life was shaped by both a deep love for music and the harsh socio-economic realities of her surroundings.
"The music is the canvas where I paint my entire genealogy and my future," she explains.
"I rap in the languages Gwanda rooted in me, and any others I have picked up along the way, to share both the 'royal blood' and the 'peasant story' with a global audience.
What truly distinguishes Easy Ice in a crowded industry is her trilingual flow.
