Prominent Glendale-based traditional healer Sekuru Nyangatayani, born Peter Chingudzi, captivated crowds in Mozambique after leading a delegation of Zimbabwean artistes to perform during the country's 50th Independence Day celebrations.
Sekuru Nyangatayani attended the celebrations at the invitation of Magoe district Member of Parliament Carlos Momade, where he was accompanied by a line-up of Zimbabwean entertainers, including sungura queen Wasu Dacoda, Chipo Muchegwa, Boom Beto, Junior Hwinza, and comedian-musician Lloyd “Matumbu” Jack, among other upcoming artistes.
Speaking to Standard Style, MP Carlos Momade praised Sekuru Nyangatayani for his continued support.
"We received overwhelming support from Sekuru Nyangatayani, who came with Zimbabwean artistes to celebrate our 50th Independence,” he said.
“He is always just a phone call away, and his presence reflects the strong bond between the people of Mozambique and Zimbabwe.”
The event was also attended by Frelimo leaders in Magoe district, including Marlen Sande Sousa and Neto Guidione Faife.
Sekuru Nyangatayani thanked the people of Mozambique for their warm hospitality.
“We had a wonderful time in Mozambique. The people were so welcoming that it never felt like we were in a foreign country. Our Zimbabwean artistes delivered polished performances that thrilled the crowds,” he said.

The artistes also staged a performance at Mukumbura Border Post, where they entertained enthusiastic fans.
Sekuru Nyangatayani said the peaceful relations between Zimbabwe and Mozambique remain a source of pride.
“Our relationship with Mozambique is peaceful, and that unity is what delights me the most,” he added.
Meanwhile, Sekuru Nyangatayani is expected to headline another cross-border cultural event at Kanyemba Border Post on July 18, where he will share the stage with Zambian artiste Gas Gee and local sungura star Simon Mutambi.
The show is expected to attract audiences from Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Zambia because of the area's close border links.
