The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) has said the importation of sex toys is illegal.

This comes after Standard-life&style reported that the Censorship board had not cleared businessman Phillip Chiyangwa’s daughter Vannessa to sell sex toys in Zimbabwe.
Zimra director legal and corporate services, Florence Jambwa said the importation of the toys into the country was prohibited under Section 47 (1) (b and c) of the Customs and Excise Act.
“Section 47 (1) (b and c) of the Customs and Excise Act prohibits the importation into Zimbabwe of goods which are described as indecent, obscene or objectionable, or any goods which might tend to deprave the morals of the inhabitants, or any class of the inhabitants of Zimbabwe,” said Jambwa.
She said when found, the goods are seized and destroyed. “Indecent, obscene or objectionable goods are not classifiable. When found at importation, they are seized and destroyed in consultation with the censorship board,” she said.
She said such goods “whenever they are found, would have been smuggled”.
Two weeks ago the Censorship Board secretary Isaac Chiranganyika said Vannessa’s business was illegal under Censorship and Entertainment Control Act of 1967 that was revised in 1996.

Chiranganyika said whoever intended to import or trade in sex toys had to seek permission from the board but pointed out that no one had sought authorisation before.
“Anyone who wants to do that business should first bring them [toys] to our offices for approval but we have not had anyone doing that,” said Chiranganyika.
