MDC-T Manicaland spokesperson Trevor Saruwaka confirmed the death of the former Mutasa South MP, whom he described as a fatherly figure in provincial ranks.

“He died at his home today [yesterday] in the morning as he failed to get out of bed to do his normal routine of jogging. He had a long history of diabetes and blood pressure,’’ he said.

Saruwaka said funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.

“We are waiting further communication from family members, but I heard that he has children working abroad,” he said.

“He spoke quietly but his words were full of wisdom and authority. We are poorer in the MDC-T because we lost a gallant fighter for democracy.

“Kagurabadza offered us his premises for use after we lost our offices to the Renewal team.’’ Mutare mayor Tatenda Nhamarare also expressed shock at the death of Kagurabadza.

“He was a good leader and on behalf of my council, I want to say this is a big loss. We used to get a lot of advice from him since he was a former mayor,” he said.

Kagurabadza played a crucial role in the formative stages of the MDC and was the first elected MDC mayor for the city of Mutare in 2002.

Mourners are gathered at his house at 12 Bourganvillea Close, Palmerstone in Mutare.
