In a statement, MDC spokesperson Kurauone Chihwayi said many Zimbabweans were already living in abject poverty due to decaying economic conditions which Zanu PF masterminded, adding the new appointments were not necessary. welshman-ncube

“To us as MDC, these appointments are all about Mugabe’s attempts to repay political debts and trying to hold together a fast-fracturing Zanu PF, at a huge cost for the rest of the Zimbabwean population,” Chihwayi said.

“What Zimbabwe needs right now is a lean and effective Cabinet and Parliament with the capacity and will to spearhead the country into economic restoration and development.”

Chihwayi said at a time when unemployment was at above 90%, it was surprising that Mugabe chose to reward his friends and allies with “cushy jobs with cushy benefits which will cost the ordinary Zimbabwean millions of dollars”.

“President Mugabe is playing a very dangerous game on Zimbabweans and everyone who loves Zimbabwe must rise to condemn him. It is unacceptable that he hands out Cabinet posts as if he is handing out sweets to his friends when government claims it has no money,” he said.

“His actions are a further manifestation of a government being run by a corrupt cartel using State power to enrich themselves and their cronies.”
