THREE State security agents, who were arrested for allegedly stealing beer, perfumes and a laptop from Lands and Agriculture deputy minister Davis Mharapira, have been given February 8, 2023 as their trial date.

The State agents Nyasha Matonhodze (41) from the President’s Office, Nicky Chigora (37) and Elia Muchiba (31) from the Police Protection Unit yesterday appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi.

The trio is on $30 000 bail each.

Matonhodze is an employee in the President’s Office working from Hardwick House and he is Mharapira’s aide-de-camp, while Muchiba and Chigora are stationed at the Police Protection Unit.

Allegations are that on October 21 this year, Mharapira secured his property by locking all the doors and windows. He then left for Masvingo, leaving the trio in charge of his house.

They trio was given house keys and the authority to open the house for prospective buyers to view it since it was on sale.

On October 26, the complainant returned from Masvingo and discovered that his laptop, an HP Spectra, and its charger, a Seiko wrist watch, several expensive perfumes and an expensive wine Glenfiddich (18 years) were missing from the house.

He also noticed that there was no forced entry or any sign of a break-in.

This then prompted him to file a formal police report, which led to the arrest of the trio.

The stolen property is valued at US$4 675 and R39 000. Nothing was recovered.
