Coach Baltemar Brito is on record saying this year, Highlanders will be competing for the league title.

HIGHLANDERS are on a four-day pre-season training camp in Beitbridge courtesy of their supporters in the border town.

A squad of 27 players left Bulawayo on Sunday, a day after their goalless draw against newboys Sheasham at Ascot Stadium in Gweru on Saturday.

The team will be back on Thursday after playing two friendly matches against two Division One sides.

Club spokesperson Nozibelo Maphosa confirmed the camp.

“The Beitbridge chapter (of the Highlanders’ supporters) is hosting us. The camp will be good for training and team building. During this week, our new signings will bond with our returning players and learn the club culture,” Maphosa said.

Some of the new players at Highlanders include Calvin Chigonero, signed from Division One side Talen Vision, and Gillian Nyathi, brought on board from the club’s development side Bosso 90.

Chigonero scored 17 goals for Talen Vision in the Zifa Southern Region Division One league.

Their latest signing is midfielder Melikhaya Ncube from relegated Bulawayo City.

Highlanders lost Adrian Silla to Caps United and Nqobizitha Masuku to Botswana side Jwaneng Galaxy and they hope Mason Mushore will fill the gap.

Mushore joined Highlanders last year and impressed in the few games that he played in.

The Bulawayo giants also welcome back central defender Andrew Tandi who spent the better part of last season on the sidelines due to injury.

Some of the returning players include veteran goalkeeper Ariel Sibanda, Andrew Mbeba, Mbongeni Ndlovu, Prichard Mpelele, Godfrey Makaruse and Peter Muduhwa.

Upfront, Highlanders have Stanley Ngala, Washington Navaya, Lynoth Chikuhwa, Ray Lunga with Darlngton Mukuli and Devine Mhindirira in the centre.

Goalkeeper Reward Muza was recalled from Bulawayo City where he was on loan.
