The gifted playmaker was deservedly voted Soccer Star of the Year by a panel of journalists, having ably led ambitious Harare club Gunners to a remarkable maiden Premier Soccer League championship in their second year in the premiership.
It was an emotional ending to the season for the 26-year-old, who only two years ago was offloaded by Gunners’ main rivals for the 2009 title, Dynamos, who deemed him surplus to requirements.
Zhuwawo was awarded US$ 4 000 for winning the award.
Playing just behind the strikers and sometimes wide on the flanks, Zhuwawo was consistent throughout the season, possessing good vision, clean tackles and accurate passing.
He was a member of Zimbabwe’s 2009 Cosafa Senior Challenge Trophy winning squad, but enjoyed little game time.
Dynamos striker Cuthbert Malajila was the first-runner up, while the country’s deadliest striker, Nyasha Mushekwi, who netted 21 goals to take the Golden Boot, was second runner-up.
